Through constant outreach to the local area United Way, a registered charity with a 75-year history in Cambridge and North Dumfries, is focused on the most pressing needs in our community. It is our mandate to create a better life for everyone and this is extended across our 4 community priorities:
Helping kids be all that they can be
Building resilience in individuals, families, and communities
Moving people from poverty to possibility
Empowering volunteers and fuelling non-profits
We provide leadership and support to the non-profit sector and bring various partners across all sectors together to find long-term solutions to the issues that affect us most. Through this coordinated approach, we are able to look for gaps and opportunities in services and invest in a combination of programs that will have the greatest impact in the most effective way. We’ve done the research, listened to the community, and used this information to guide our investments with partner agencies.
United Way-funded programs and services meet immediate needs, such as food, clothing and shelter, but also help with long-term needs through supports like life skills development and counseling.
Along with the 10,000 individuals and hundreds of organizations that partner with us each year, we envision a future in which every child reaches their potential; individuals, families, and entire neighbourhoods are thriving and resilient; opportunities exist for people to move from poverty to possibility; and people are empowered to make a difference through volunteering.
Together, we are Possibility.
