Newcomers are Welcomed and Supported
With one fifth of Cambridge residents born outside of Canada, it is a priority for United Way to invest in the inclusion of newcomers. By connecting newcomers to the community and encouraging their important contributions, we can help everyone in our community develop a sense of belonging, identity, and productivity. Your investment helps these newcomers to Canada. See a complete list of the programs that your investment supports.

Client Success Story
Noor, age 16, and her two siblings joined the Newcomer Youth program at the YMCA in the summer of 2009, only two weeks after arriving from Iran. Her leadership qualities shone through immediately, and we recruited her as a volunteer. Watching her is always inspiring. She was able to make two younger participants from Korea feel comfortable by braiding their hair, which really helped to bring them out of their shell. She has already developed her skills in teamwork, sportsmanship, problemsolving and cooperation.
